2008 MATCH REPORTS
03/01/08 vs Vallejo (W: 24-12)
Match Report comming soon.2/23/08 vs CHICO (W: 15-12)
Humboldt Old Growth Rugby Football Club traveled to Chico about 22 players deep to come out victorious over the Mighty Oaks. It was a cold and rainy rugby day but that didn't seem to affect Alex , winger, who scored at the tenth minute of the first half. A few moments later Chico kicked at the Humboldt forwards, Kurun countered with a nice kik of his own right into Chico territory where Humboldt recovered and Jeremy Drakeford drop-kicked for 3pts. At the end of the half it was 8-0 Humboldt Old Growth.
The second half started out strong with Chico determined and playing their hard running/hitting game. 20 minutes into the second half Chico scores a try followed by a conversion. Old Growth soon responded with a kick by Jeremy Drakeford in between Chico's fullback and winger. Jeremy then chases the kick to wrestle it away from Chico's fullback to stride in for a try and followed it up with a 2pt conversion. Chico scored again but this time choked on the kick for points after try. Late in the second half Humboldt got penalized and gave Chico a chance to tie up the score with a penalty kick. Chico faked the penalty kick and kicked it to their full back who was quickly taken down by Humboldt's backline. A few plays later referee, Chris Tucker, blew the final whistle leaving the score at 15 to 12 Humboldt Old Growth.
Social Notes: Chico hosted at the Endzone where the beers, burgers and babes were banging. Humboldt led the announcements and singing once again although no Man of the Match was named, what the hell? At one point of the evening the owner of the sports bar and grill is asked if the songs should be toned down for it was getting ugly and the owner replies across the bar, "If they don't like it they can leave", refering to the shocked customers. Even the Humboldt State Girls Rugby Club crashed the social to partake in the celebration. Overall it was a great social and an even greater victory for the Old Growth men of Humboldt.
